Congratulations to Client Alex Honnold on “Free Solo” Sweep at 2019 Emmys

After winning the Oscar for Best Documentary and earning seven Emmy nominations, the documentary film Free Solo, featuring our firm’s client, professional rock climber Alex Honnold, already deserved plenty of praise and congratulations. Then, on September 14 at the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, Free Solo won all seven categories it was nominated in, including for outstanding direction, cinematography, sound editing, sound mixing, picture editing, music composition and best achievement in interactive media.

The film follows Honnold’s 2017 free solo ascent of the Freerider climbing route on the El Capitan granite face in Yosemite National Park. Free Solo won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and the Best Documentary Award at the BAFTAs (the UK Oscars) earlier this year for co-producers and directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin.
