RPJ’s Nicole Page Interviewed for “The Inner World of Filmmaking” Podcast

In a recent interview on The Inner World of Filmmaking podcast, RPJ’s Nicole Page discusses contract fundamentals, contract disputes, and production practices within the film industry.  She underscores the vital role of contracts in establishing clear expectations and preventing conflicts, particularly with regard to compensation, credits, and the ownership of work.  Ms. Page points out that the nature of these contracts varies depending on an individual’s role in a production, such as actors, directors, and writers, with notable distinctions between union and non-union agreements, and advises all parties to consult with a lawyer early in the production process to ensure that contracts are properly handled and legally sound, especially in areas such as intellectual property and state-specific labor laws.

Addressing the issue of gender-based pay disparities, Ms. Page offers practical guidance on how to approach compensation negotiations, and highlights the critical need for filmmakers, especially women, to learn to be their own advocates.

The conversation also explores the growing role of AI in film production, with Ms. Page emphasizing the necessity of including contractual clauses to safeguard likeness and image rights.  Additionally, she touches on postmortem rights of publicity, noting that the image and likeness of deceased celebrities may require prior consent from their estates.

Overall, Ms. Page stresses that early legal involvement and proactive contract negotiation are all essential for ensuring a smooth, equitable production process.
