RPJ Partner Alice Jump Quoted in Modern Retail

RPJ is pleased to announce that Alice K. Jump was recently featured in Modern Retails article, “Walmart’s first new stores in years face local resistance.”  In the piece, Alice comments on Walmart bucking the trend, and shares her insights on how communities respond to large-scale development projects and steps developers can take to anticipate and address such concerns and soften the edge of community resistance.

She further highlights that developers can avoid unnecessary conflict by engaging with community leaders early, providing sufficient time and personnel for engagement, communicating development benefits clearly, and addressing concerns with greater insight and understanding.

“Even if you’re in a big city or a small town, the issues are the same;  the neighbors take an interest in what’s going to happen.  I find that most people don’t want change.  If they’re happy with their neighborhood, they don’t want something that’s going to change it.”
