‘Missing in Brooks County’ Nominated for Peabody Award
Very excited to share that Missing in Brooks County has been nominated for a Peabody Award – one of the most preeminent and distinguished awards in entertainment across all media including radio/podcast, broadcast television, film, documentary and news.
Peabody Award nominees are selected annually from over 3,000 entries. Those entries are eventually narrowed down to an elite sub-selection of around 30 final nominees per category, with Missing in Brooks County nominated in the Best Documentary & News category. By definition, the Peabody Awards honor the most powerful, enlightening, and impactful “Stories that Matter” in television, film, radio, and online media, so it’s incredibly exciting that Missing in Brooks County and its producers have been recognized among this elite circle of creators and projects.
Congratulations to RPJ’s Heidi Reavis along with Engel Entertainment’s Steve Engel and Jenna Helwig as Executive Producers of Missing in Brooks County along with ITVS, Abigail Disney, and Fork Films. We are proud of our work on such documentaries shedding light on important social issues and sometimes moving the needle on legislation and policy.
Missing in Brooks County is a poignant, feature-length call-to-action that delves into the urgent issue of missing migrants and physical hostility in rural Texas. The film follows activist Eddie Canales as he helps families locate their lost loved ones in Brooks County, known as the “largest cemetery in America” with its massive, desert terrain and gross loss of life – with ranchers and the land itself rejecting those trying to cross. The documentary has received critical acclaim for its subtle and specific take on U.S. immigration policy and its success at the Congressional level with the passage of the bi-partisan Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains Act and our continued national outreach efforts using this film as an advocacy tool for humanitarian and forensic aide.
The winners of the 83rd Annual Peabody Awards will be announced May 9 and then celebrated on Sunday, June 11th in Los Angeles – stay tuned!
