RPL congratulates the Women’s City Club of New York (“WCC”) on its successful 2012 Civic Spirit Awards program, held May 2, 2012 at the New York Palace Hotel where Laurie Beckelman, HR&A Advisors and Diana Vagelos were honored for their profound contributions to New York City life and landscape.  RPL Senior Partner Helen D. (“Heidi”) Reavis serves as Co-Counsel of the WCC.

Through the Civic Spirit Awards, the WCC publicly recognizes and honors individuals, institutions, organizations and corporations that have demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility in addressing the civic and social needs of the community.  This year’s honorees and recipients of Civic Spirit Awards were Laurie Beckelman, founding partner of Beckelman+Capalino and a leading expert in the development of cultural and not-for-profit organizations and in the field of landmarks preservation; HR&A Advisors and its Chairman John H. Alschuler and Vice-Chair Candace Damon; and Diana Touliatou Vagelos, who, with her husband Roy, has faithfully and generously supported the development, academic programs and scholarships at Barnard College, Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania, as well as the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Presenters included Mary McCormick, President of the Fund for the City of New York;  Adrian Benepe, Commissioner, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation;  and Deborah L. Spar, President of Barnard College.

The WCC, a nonpartisan activist organization of 600 volunteer members, is the oldest multi-issue advocacy organization in New York City, having recently completed its 95th year of advocating for the vital causes that matter most to New Yorkers.
