Read Alliance 2023 Annual Gala “Elevating the Extraordinary”: Enhancing Early Literacy Skills and Teen Employment in Under-Resourced Neighborhoods
After sweeping pandemic learning loss hit our most vulnerable communities, Read Alliance aims to raise awareness of and celebrate its 20+ years of success improving the reading skills of early elementary students through high dosage one-to-one literacy tutoring led by high school teenagers in under-resourced communities. The NYC-based nonprofit will host its 2023 Gala: Elevating the Extraordinary on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 6:00 pm at the Tribeca Rooftop, located at 2 Desbrosses Street in New York City.
This year’s gala will recognize Chris Volpe, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of United Legwear and Apparel, Co. as the 2023 Honoree; Tom Regan, Director Emeritus and Former Board Chair of Read Alliance, with the Leadership Award; and Ashley Martinez, Kindergarten Teacher in Residence at KIPP NYC Public Schools & Former READ Teen Leader, with the Alumni Award. Attendees of the event will enjoy an inspirational evening hosted by Emmy Award winning meteorologist Audrey Puente that will include cocktails, dinner, and exciting auctions.
Mark Moore, 2023 Gala Honorary Co-Chair, Read Alliance Board Member, and Counsel at Reavis Page Jump says, “Since its inception more than 20 years ago, Read Alliance has made a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands of children and teens through their effective dual impact model.” RPJ is a longstanding supporter of Read Alliance and Mark is Chair of Read’s Governance Committee and a member of its Expansion Committee. “The team and I at Reavis Page Jump are honored to support an organization whose mission is so impactful to the communities that they serve.”

About Read Alliance: Read Alliance works to accelerate the educational trajectory of early elementary students through the power of teens who provide one-to-one literacy tutoring in under-resourced communities. Through their dual impact model, high school students are trained in the curriculum and then meaningfully employed to provide individual literacy tutoring to their younger peers, thereby preparing both for academic and life success.
