“Loud Enough – Surviving Justice,” co-produced by RPJ’s Helen D. (Heidi) Reavis with support from Alice K. Jump, Spotlighted by Women Make Movies to Kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month – a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and examine the systems meant to deliver justice and accountability. In recognition of this month, Women Make Movies has highlighted Loud Enough – Surviving Justice, a powerful and inspiring documentary that examines the legal and medical processes in confronting the challenges of seeking justice after experiencing sexual assault, culminating in Smith’s victory.
The film, directed by Hilary Klotz Steinman and co-produced by RPJ’s Helen D. Reavis and Steve Engel with Kansas production legal support from Alice K. Jump, takes place in rural Kansas and centers on Madison Smith and her family. After the local county prosecutor declines to file charges against Smith’s assailant despite a strong case and compelling physical evidence, Smith and her family refuse to be silenced and continue their pursuit for justice, employing frontier legislation permitting civilians to convene a Grand Jury and turning the case around.
Loud Enough – Surviving Justice is available and has been screened for professionals in law enforcement, medicine and social work, educational institutions, and other groups promoting greater fairness and accountability for intimate crimes.
