RPJ Partner Nicole Page Quoted on SEC Investigation of “Frat Boy” Workplace Practices at Gaming Giant Activision Blizzard
Yesterday, RPJ Partner Nicole Page was quoted in Law360 in an article entitled, “A Cheat Sheet for Activision Blizzard’s Legal Woes.”
Activision Blizzard, the largest gaming company in the Americas and Europe, has recently faced a slew of legal threats from the federal government concerning its workplace practices, ranging from pay inequities to sexual harassment and assault. Following the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing’s lawsuit against the company in July, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued subpoenas of current and former employees and executives this week.
On the urgency of changing sexist workplace cultures, Nicole says the SEC’s involvement is significant and could be a “real wake-up call” to other companies. “Other enforcement agencies deserve respect, but it’s the SEC in particular that corporations worry about.”
“I think these big companies are a lot more afraid of the SEC, frankly,” Nicole adds. “I think that you need a combination of public outcry at the behavior backed up with some serious financial repercussions to make change.”
