RPJ Supports Read Alliance’s 25th Anniversary Gala: A Tribute to Literacy and Mentorship

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Read Alliance will hold its Annual Gala, themed “A Storied Success,” at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers, Pier 61 in New York City.  The Gala will feature cocktails, dinner, inspiring reflections, live auctions, and a dessert reception on the veranda.  For more than a decade, Reavis Page Jump LLP (RPJ) has been a staunch supporter of the Read Alliance and its transformative mission promoting youth literacy.

The Read Alliance is committed to accelerating the educational trajectory of early elementary students through a unique model that pairs them with teen tutors who provide paid one-on-one literacy instruction in under-resourced communities in New York and Pennsylvania.  The Read Alliance-trained teen leaders teach reading and mentor the early elementary students, developing both skills and confidence.  Over its 25-year history, the organization’s dual mission of serving young readers and teen leaders has seen major accomplishments:

  • More than 22,000 young readers and 20,000 teen leaders have benefited from the program since 2000.
  • 85% of participating readers improve by more than one grade level in reading;
  • Classroom teachers frequently report enhanced reading confidence in participating students;
  • Over 95% of the teen leaders show measurable gains in core competence as part of the program.

RPJ’s Helen D. Reavis is serving as the Gala Auction Chair, continuing her invaluable role in making the Gala auction a much-anticipated and successful event.  RPJ’s Mark Moore is serving as a Supporter Circle Chair for the Gala.  A devoted member of the Read Alliance Board for eleven years, Mr. Moore currently chairs the Governance and Nominating Committee, and was honored with the organization’s 2024 Leadership Award.  At this year’s Gala, the Read Alliance will be honoring Matt D’Amico, representing the Victor & Clara C. Battin Foundation, for his long-standing support of the organization.  Additionally, Mark Hemenetz, Chair of the Read Alliance Board, will receive the organization’s 2025 Leadership Award in recognition of his distinguished and inspired service.
